Exa-Min Technologies announces GBM Mobile Manager for MapInfo Exponare
BRISBANE – 12th July 2005 — Exa-Min Technologies, a Strategic Partner of MapInfo Australia, is preparing to launch a web server based companion for GBM Mobile, their highly successful mobile mapping product. The new product tightly integrates Exa-Min’s existing GBM Mobile solution with the MapInfo® Exponare™ corporate mapping environment.
GBM Mobile operates on PDA devices running Microsoft Pocket PC 2003. Existing customers commonly use “consumer level” devices such as the HP iPAQ or rugardised equipment from a number of manufactures. The product is built on MapInfo Map X Mobile and delivers mapping and data entry in a highly portable package - ideal for field surveys such as asset capture and maintenance inspections.
GBM Mobile is normally packaged with GBM Mobile Manager for Windows. This included software automates the transfer of data between a Windows support PC and the mobile device. The new product, GBM Mobile for Exponare, provides similar services but operates within MapInfo Exponare™.
MapInfo® Exponare™ is a configurable suite of server-based enterprise applications that allow an organization to deploy maps and control access to data over the Internet or on an internal network. It provides a cost-efficient mechanism to share information with internal and external customers. Exponare™ is a product of MapInfo Corporation.
GBM Mobile Manager for Exponare was developed using Microsoft .NET technologies and conforms to the Microsoft smart client development model. End user interaction is through forms that present within MapInfo Exponare operating on a standard Windows PC. The client installation is backed by an ASP .NET web server, commonly operating on a Microsoft 2003 server running Microsoft IIS.
GBM Mobile Manager for Exponare will assist organisations to mediate between the demand for more widespread access to mapping data and the need to centrally manage this key data resource. End-users with access to the corporate internet will be able to install maps onto hand-held computers and load field observations back onto the central server. Workplace efficiencies will be achieved as field staff will be able to connect to the central data server from outlying offices or works depots.
GBM Mobile Manger for Exponare is available now. It is compatible with GBM Mobile V3.10. For further information on GBM Mobile or GBM Mobile Manger for Exponare, contact Exa-Min Technologies at www.geobasemap.com.
